Looking for Someone You Lost Touch With?

Watch this short video to learn how we help people reconnect with a long-lost friend or a lost love.

Find a long-lost friend, a lost love, or that unforgettable childhood sweetheart. Or perhaps that memorable, kindly, school teacher.

Note: Please be aware that an average search takes us around 30 hours!

Was it perhaps 50-60 years ago? Have you given up on the search for your long-lost friend? Maybe abandoning it as an impossible task? Well, actually, no- it isn’t, far from it! -See below some of our truly stunning successes supported by testimonials. We solve these highly challenging cases daily. Sometimes we even surprise ourselves!

If someone still lives on in your thoughts, heart, and memories, it’s never too late to find out where life has taken them! To squeeze their little hand one more time, give them a big hug, and perhaps even just to say sorry! For many of our more senior enquirers, some in their 90s, this is a “must-do before” old-father time beats them to it! It’s become a daily mission for them and us-as we fully ‘get it’ too! If they are still out there, we usually find them!! Even though, in some cases, sadly, we discover they are deceased.

How much does it cost?

We are not avoiding the question here. But it does depend on the complexity of the search. We are not avoiding this question. If you could kindly email us all the details of your long-lost friend, we will F.O.C. assess the case’s viability, the work involved, and the time required. Then we will happily provide a cost estimate.

Find My Past is What We Do.

We find lost friends from your past in various capacities. It could either have been a lost school best friend or one from those dim and distant memories. For example, when you arrived on the first day together at primary school, the one who gallantly defended you against the school bully! Or conversely, that special school teacher who encourages you to believe in yourself.  Maybe a special old friend, a boy or girl friend, or a teenage sweetheart you lost somewhere along the way. Or the one whom you disappointed and let down! Yes, we do really and truly understand how much it means to find that special one, once more. Why? Because we were once wracked with the same sorrows and regrets as you. Our clients seem to like our service; click here for the testimonials section.

Tom/Tomek From Poland-Story: 57 years later – some task. John, can you find Elaine?

Tom/Tomek From Poland-Story: 57 years later – some task. John, can you find Elaine?
Part 1

By chance in 1964, we met at a caravan park dance in Point Clear Bay nr. Clacton-on-Sea. She was a Londoner holidaying with her parents - I was a visiting student from Poland. We were both 18 - We fell in love.

A year later she visited me in Poland. Then in 1966, I revisited her in England. We'd lost touch over the years and recently, quite by chance I glanced at our picture together and memories came flooding in. I just had to try and find her. 57 years later - some task.

John, can you find Elaine? I opted for John’s highly acclaimed Friends Reconnected services - My God what a challenge I gave him. Firstly, and unbeknown to me she always used her middle name as her first name. It meant all the searches GRO etc. threw up blanks. Despite this and other serious setbacks - he never gave up.

Finally after many hours including working an entire weekend of 2 x 13-hour stints and numerous back-and-forth emails- he found her! But devastatingly he discovered Elaine passed away in 2017. A very sad outcome indeed.

John genuinely seemed as upset as I was. Magnanimously he refused my offer of any additional payment! Thanks for everything John-we stay in touch!

Tom/Tomek & Elaine
Part 2

Hi John, Elaine didn't let me sleep, so here goes. I think I was meant to search for her and John was meant to find her. She didn't want to be forgotten on Earth and in this way, she will not only outlive us both.

At the same time staying as young and beautiful as when we'd met. I am not spiritual or crazy, but I had one other related experience a few years ago.

I was researching a history of a Polish personality, who was very popular in Poland before the war and in the UK he did have some popularity, but among the older Polish refugees. He had a beautiful American wife, who graced the Columbia Pictures logos of their films. His name and works (he composed over 3000 songs and verses) have faded away with the younger generation.

So I decided to organise a concert dedicated to him and his wife. And it also went so "easily" with everyone involved so eager to be part of the endeavour.

Now they are remembered, and also on the Internet, with some surprising results. Very well done to the truly brilliant researcher John - thank you on Elaine's behalf.

Note: John discovered that Elaine "never" married! Very profound! Final word from John. The tragic outcome to this search, was to us; devastating! The words cruel and unfair spring to mind!

David and Tina.

1980s.Harlesden, North London. Part 1

Tina from Hemel Hempstead asked us to find David. 3 weeks later, we managed to find him living in Australia.
(We will not bore you with all the difficulties of how challenging the search was)-but suffice to say it
was. Message from Tina: We spoke for ages, laughed, cried, and spoke truths. I will never be able to thank
you enough, John. You have changed our lives immensely. Wow. You’re like an Angel that dropped out of Heaven
for a while. I’ve had my miracle delivered to me, incredible. There are no words to describe what you
brought to both our worlds. Love, Tina. Note: The lovely Tina is coming to work with us. You can contact her here.

Ex-Pat from Spain.

I would dearly like to make contact with the above-named lady, with whom I last had contact in 1982. We were engaged when I became a courier/tourist guide/rep and left her behind. I have thought about her over the decades: written poems and songs for her, asking her forgiveness. I feel that I need to meet with Melanie face to face, should she be willing, or, failing that, write to her to make amends for my selfish and thoughtless behaviour. I very much hope that you can help me out here.  Answer: Solved 50 hours.

Client from Australia

“Hello, my request to re-establish links with an old friend dates back many decades, to 1965 when I was a young Australian visitor working in London. During that year, I befriended a young woman, then aged 20, whose family lived in the North East and maintained accommodation in Knightsbridge for their two daughters. Given the almost 60 years that have elapsed since that time, I do not hold out much hope of success in locating this friend. The only details I can provide are a maiden name, residential addresses from 1965–66 in the North East and Knightsbridge, and sketchy work details of my friend. She was employed late in 1966 at the BBC’s Portland Place headquarters. I want your opinion on what else might be required, and what to expect from your fee structure. Answer: Solved -spent 40 hours plus on the case.

John, thanks for all you did for my Mum. Love, Loraine

John is an absolute star! Worked for (30 hours) to help my elderly Mum find her old friend Betty. Sadly,
Betty had passed away. John, with good grace, unexpectedly waived the second part of his fee.

Sweet Video of Old Friends Reconnecting

I was trying to surprise and reconnect my mum, Dena, with her best friend, Shirley, from their Navy days, 40 years ago.

Yes, John, from Friends Reconnected-amazingly delivered! The Video to the right sums it up!

Despite searching for years, I found nothing. The team at Friends Reconnected did phenomenal work. They are absolute geniuses! After navigating many dead ends, they finally found Shirley, living in Scotland. The news was incredible, and the service from John was exceptional. We organised a surprise reunion for Mum’s birthday, and they spent five wonderful hours laughing and crying. Thank you, John, from the bottom of my heart!” — Nikki  CLICK ON THE VIDEO TO THE RIGHT. 1968. USA-UK Story of Maureen and John.

A personal story featuring John, our researcher, who in 1968 remarkably managed to persuade the captain of a Pan Am Boeing 707 bound for Detroit, to wait at Heathrow for Maureen. John and Maureen met in Luton during the summer of 1968. Two years prior, Maureen and her parents had moved from Luton to the USA. During her return visit, they spent a wonderful 3 months going everywhere together. Read more about John and Maureen.

Are you Still Haunted By Guilt Over Your Once Bad Behaviour?

Do you sometimes feel guilty? That is despite more than 50 years having elapsed? Does the video below resonate?

Shall we go find her? Think it’s impossible! No, it is not!

Our New Location!

We have moved location. Now installed with a modest micro presence, in this beautiful historic location, nestling in the Chiltern Hills at Wrest Park in Silsoe, Bedfordshire. You are welcome for afternoon tea!

Lost Friends: What are Considered the Most Challenging Cases

Those without a person’s full name, thus making the search virtually impossible. Often, even with a full name, for example, if it’s David Smith, born in 1946, in Wandsworth. We see 10,000 people born in that year, and with that name..hmmm! Today, they probably no longer live in Wandsworth. Moved abroad, changed their name by deed poll, or even in prison. If it’s a female subject, there are even more obstacles to overcome. Such as, of course, usually changing their surname. But we will always take a look for you (FOC)

Unless you have some compelling linking information. Such as, if you remember a previous address and the approximate year. We can always take a look (FOC)

Here we feature Marie from Sweden, one of our failures.

An image taken of Marie back in 1961 in Eastbourne. We reckon that today Marie would be around 78 years old. We have been working on this case for almost 2 years. The search continues, full story here.

A smiling woman with long blonde hair stands outside. She's wearing a dark sweater over a collared shirt. The background features brick and foliage. The mood is cheerful.

The Cost of Tracing an Old Friend

We won’t dodge this one. There’s no price list here, and there never will be, because no two searches are the same. Send John the details of your long-lost friend, and he’ll assess the case free of charge, looking at how much digging it will take and how long it’s likely to run. Only then do you get a proper cost estimate, not a guess.

Why not a flat fee, or “no find, no fee”? Because a real search takes around 30 hours minimum, often a day trip to the British Library, and real time out of the office. Offer that for free and we’d be closing our doors within the month. And we’ll never hand over a current address before being paid. That’s not us being awkward, it’s the one rule that keeps this whole thing trustworthy.

Find my past is what we do. We just ask you to trust the process, and give us the details first.

We regularly perform the impossible. Miracles-take us just a bit longer!

Are those long-lost friends really lost forever?…-Maybe NOT!

Are those long-lost friends really lost forever? Maybe not!

Don’t mistake us for those “simple, easy, two clicks and the job is done” claims you see elsewhere. As we’ve said, a proper search means real hours of real work: a trip to the British Library electoral archives, old Kelly’s Directories, birth listings for your friend or their sibling, maiden and married names for the women involved, and a thousand other tangles.

Maybe you remember Friends Reunited?

Probably thinking our service is similar? Or you are hoping it is, especially as you remember it was free. No, No, – it isn’t- it’s totally different!  Friends Reunited only worked if both you and your absent friend were already listed on there. Then it would indeed become a mere 5-minute job. By contrast, we have to go out and find your long-lost friend amongst 60 million other people. Often, backtracking 50 years or more. Not to mention coping with name changes, by divorce, or marriage. Maybe remarried, or moving abroad. We repeat, 30 hours minimum.

Oerseas Searches

In addition, and always assisted by local, brilliant professional support, we have often been successful in many overseas searches (see testimonies below). Popular search destinations include: New Zealand, India, the United States, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, and more! Not to mention, we have occasionally succeeded even without a surname to work off! Ask for details.

Find a Lost Friend. Finding the Right People Search Agency. Plus a Few Words of Caution!

No Find No Fee Offers!! Of course, in the current economic environment, it sounds very tempting.

However, bearing in mind that each case takes us around 30 hours to deliver. Not to mention that it usually involves a costly, time-consuming day trip to the British Library in Marylebone Road. That means a day out of the office. Expenses, and to deliver all of that (petrol, our time) with zero funds in the till. Frankly, we would sooner close the business.

Be prepared, no one will provide a person’s actual current physical address without first being paid!! So…obviously, trust is crucial. Let us be frank, theoretically, you could be given any old address! Have you thought of that? We have NEVER got that one wrong.

Genealogy/tracing portals. Useful, unfortunately, you need to be a professional yourself to know how to use it! Often floundering in no time. Plus, it only works linearly, so it misses the human touch that makes it all work!  On social media portals, etc., most of our now-elderly clients simply do not use them. And those who do often struggle to find their way around.

Uniquely Friends Reconnected operates on a one-case-at-a-time policy. Thus, no distraction or loss of focus. This can delay our start.

Why does none of our stories ever include a video supporting them?  Or indeed the client’s actual name? Answer: It’s a very touchy subject for many. Consider that most of our friends who have been reunited are related to teen first loves or school-year romantic crushes from 50-60 years ago. For example, take a client today, age 76. All of this happened before any of his/her family was around. Or indeed any of the grandkids were born. The last thing they want today is ridicule and sarcasm from grandkids, for example. This equally applies to why we cannot publish the real names of testimonial contributors.

Alumni sites. Similar to the now-defunct Friends Reunited.  You might get lucky, but the posts made are passive, which means there is no proactive action here. Essentially, you have to hope he/she has also registered there. If they haven’t, then how are they going to find you?  Conversely, you must decide to register that in the million-to-one chance they may find you. Whereas with us, it’s a case of rolling up our sleeves and doing serious work on the case. To us, the concept appears to be full of holes.

Find a long-lost Love.

Saturday cinema

Some of our lost friends’ traces extend as far back as 1948.

How about searching for your lost friend yourself?

Here’s a good start: www.192.com or other similar portals.

192.com enables access to the UK electoral rolls- great! But it relies on the open electoral register, which is unfortunately only updated once per year-that’s the first bad news! The second very bad news is: Or maybe you have discovered this yourself already: more than 70% of people opt out of being shown on the open electoral register. Or, unfortunately, your friend shares the same name as 20000 others? Or you may not have found them due to name changes, marriage/divorce, moving abroad, changing their name by deed poll, etc. We discovered many searchers rather naively expect that if they type in the name of a person they knew some 50 years ago, they will immediately, ‘voila’… have their home address! Staggeringly naive, may I say!!

Who are Our Main Focus?

Those from the so-called baby-boomer era, 1946-1964!! The children of our greatest generation. Without sounding patronising, we love them all! Especially being amongst this very age group ourselves.

Find my past is what we do.

We find lost friends from your past in various capacities. It could either be a lost school best friend or one from those dim and distant memories. For example, when arriving on the first day together at primary school. The one who gallantly defended you against the school bully. Maybe a special old friend, a boy or girl friend, or a teenage sweetheart you lost somewhere along the way. Yes, we do really and truly feel understanding, how much it means to find that special one once more. Our clients seem to like our service; click here: the testimonials section.

When can we begin the search for your old friend?

Usually within 2 weeks of your instruction. We have an unusual policy here. We strictly limit our searches to just one case at a time.

What are the success/failure rates of searching for an old friend?

Well, firstly, let’s say, here and now, we could tell you anything. But here is how it goes! (1) Success in finding the current location of your lost friend (if still living in the UK) is around 95%. (2) What % are still alive? =98%. (3) What % of people respond to you when you make contact with them? We have 2 categories here: (3a)- Platonic friends- 99% positive outcome. (3b) Romantic connections lost love- 70%. This is the tricky one. Why? Usually, when there is a break-up marked by acrimony, we find that women: lost love  can be very unforgiving. But if today they are living alone, some might bury the hatchet. (4) They are living with their current spouse/partner and don’t want to upset the apple cart. So, for all your time and effort, you might find that they simply do not answer you. However, in many other cases, their spouse/partner is quite ok and often encourages them to reconnect. So, there are risks associated with your search.

Why the Search Might Sometimes Fail

Although rare, sometimes we quite simply fail to find them. It can happen. Or, they might simply, and for you devastatingly, just prefer not to answer your communications. Thus leaving you in the dark and wondering about all sorts of things. Did she/he receive the letter? Did a jealous spouse intercept it? Questioning whether or not we are dishonest and gave you the wrong information, etc. All we can say here is: it’s simply a risk you are either prepared to take, or not. Finally, we suspect sometimes failure is due to the lady being embarrassed by how much her appearance has changed. Thus, preferring to leave the guy with the image that he remembers.

Big question? Are we any good at the task of- find a lost friend?

Our biggest asset lies in the hands of our veteran honorary researcher, John. An exceptionally talented forensic archivist of international acclaim. John is regarded by many former clients as:- I quote, a wizard. Now, today, at age 80, he has achieved genuine legendary status. Amazingly, he still handles every single case for us.

John possesses a fascinating and wildly adventurous C.V. Beginning back in the early 1960s, when working in a local car factory in Luton, at the Vauxhall Motors car plant. Followed by driving mini cabs in London, Kentish Town and much more. We do have some truly amazing stories about John, and we mean truly AMAZING!! Many have suggested he should publish as a Book: Read all about John, here.

Finding a person by their name in the UK.

How long does it take on average to find someone?

From our experience, around 3 weeks. You will find more information about how the time is taken up by reading through our website. On rare occasions, it ran for many months.

Why don’t you publish your success rates as a percentage?

Quite pointless. How can we prove it? You would need access to all our files to corroborate it, which contravenes data protection rules. The fact is, we could tell you anything! Frankly, either you trust us or you don’t- we accept that.

What can you yell me about failure rates?

Some competitors may avoid this question. We do not. Yes, for sure, there have been some. We warn every potential client of this possible outcome. It would insult your intelligence to boast a 100% success rate. We don’t even claim to be the best or anything like that. But in answer directly to the question, we only ever had 3 failures.

Why is it so important to find a lost friend?

Lingering regret and shame over their poor behaviour often play a part. Albeit, say 50 years ago. Advancing years can sometimes reawaken some dormant, wild, and reckless thoughts from a misspent youth. At say age 85, we often hear: “Please help me at all costs in finding my lost darling?” Yes, true love does endure. I would do anything to find him/her if only to once again just squeeze her/his hand and give them a big kiss. Many of these people today are now in their 80s. Sadly, often without a single friend or relative still alive. I just want to look them in the eye once more and say: that despite everything, I still love you. We had two very sad cases recently where the people involved had been diagnosed with terminal illnesses. For them, the desire to reconnect just one more time was totally off the radar!! On both occasions, and with a heavy heart, we managed to reconnect them both.

Who are your clients?

They come from right across the board. But we do seem to attract a high number from the older generations. Especially the so-called “baby-boomer” era. Many see it as a mission with the ticking clock seriously beginning to work against them.

How people lose contact with old friends?

Sometimes, it was acrimonious, youthful petulance or behaviour that was macho. Or, innocuously scribbling their/address down on a scrap of paper. Then, as we have all done in those days, we carelessly lost/misplaced it. No digital technology then, only a scrap of paper.

Who should you use to help find a lost friend?

Searching for that lost special friend or first love should begin in your own capable hands! Click here for our DIY guide.

Or, you can ask us or someone else to find a long-lost friend from school, a teenage friend, a relative, or a lost first love.

We don’t claim to be the ultimate people searcher (indeed, you might find better), but a number of our ex-clients thought so. Take a look at some of our testimonials or click to see some of our heartening thank-you letters..

Which age group do most people search for?

Mainly kids who grew up in the 1950s, 1960s 1970s. Many from the so-called “Baby Boomer era.

Indeed, we are proud and honoured to serve those who were the children of our greatest generation! It’s a big regret that today we are too late to help most of their parents, too! Many today live alone, and without any or few friends or, indeed, visitors. Usually, we can find those old friends for them.

Do you have enquiries from older age groups?

Yes, we must not leave this group out. These people are predominantly UK ex-pats, mainly from Australia. Seeking either a long-lost classroom chum or a childhood first love crush. Maybe a first love from as far back as the late 40s or early 1950s. Do we find them? Mostly-yes!
